Rijken Cup Victory For Horizon

Captains Report

The SACSA Rijken Cup 2026 campaign for Horizon was a huge success this year in coming first for the first time in school history. Watching everybody compete and support each other throughout the competition made it all so memorable and special for the group. Especially giving thanks to Mr Agnew & Mr Chapman for their encouragement, coaching, and organising during the preparation for the lead-up into the Rijken cup, we wouldn’t have won without you.
This week was filled with many memorable and funny moments throughout the competition that we can look back on and can’t help but laugh. Like the two goals scored in girls’ soccer for the, being scored in the final game by soccer captain, Teleah, but one ended up going into our own goal. This resulted in a 1-1 score for a penalty shootout where we ended up going down 1-0 (not one penalty was on target). Or if it was HP’s break along the wing during a tied game (1-1) for the first game of boys touch footy where he tried to score too early resulting in the final siren going off 4 seconds later.
The week was filled with many intense moments too, like the boys and girls making both grand finals for netball and basketball. It was a dream start for the Horizon Hornets where both teams won their netball grand finals against Torrens Valley and Hope respectively, hearing each team get around each other was the difference maker in winning those finals. However, it wasn’t the dream ending, neither team were hoping for where both teams lost their basketball grand finals to Prescott South and Torrens Valley. The boys game even went into OT against Prescott South after a dominant run to the grand final, but ultimately fell by 3 points making it the toughest loss for the boys that week.
Hearing our school’s name get called out and winning the Rijken Cup was a complete surprise and one of the greatest feelings. It was an absolute honour to hold that trophy up to the team after all the hard work we had put in since as early as Term 1 this year. We are so grateful for every student who participated and competed hard for the school, whether that was for 1 sport or 6, your contributions led our school to victory. We hope that you all relive these memories of Rijken Cup 2026 and continue to compete hard next year for Rijken Cup 2027. Up the Hornets!
